For no particular reason, this Melbourne band reminded us of Steven D. Levitt book ‘Freakonomics‘, check it out if you don’t know it. There is a sense of freedom and randomness in BBQ Haque debut. And that is precisely what alternative bands need to embrace to remain relevant to new generations.
Even more peculiar is the band’s predicament, centred around their expulsion from a now-defunct Parisian culinary school during the student strikes of the early 1990s, which forced them to adventure in the street food market’s life where they work for Alfred Haque. This eccentric street food vendor inspired not only their cuisine but their approach to music.
And that is not just a peculiar anecdote; it’s all they talk about in their press release, street food. That’s beautifully weird.
