The thing about Boyfromthecrowd is that when they state that they like to play “Always on the edge of disaster and everything falling apart”, they mean it. Heck, it’s even printed on their vinyl.

We saw them live at The Cavendish Arms in Stockwell for the release of their new single Hitch That Ride, and the venue wasn’t chosen at random. It’s the same venue where the video was shot, with its distinctive David Lynch’s “red room” feel.

Somehow, they hold it together, but just. They played and pushed so hard, the audience stayed captivated, wondering if the band would get to the end of each song ok.  It’s a mixture of thundery Hendrix style riffs, driving and hypnotic bass lines full of fuzz goodness, pounding drums and Vinny’s voice which kept reminding us of Joe Strummer.

Boyfromthecrowd played about 10 songs and a highly memorable encore. The crowd loved Hitch That Ride, but deciding on which song was the highlight of the night was a tough call. To us, it was the very last song they did in the encore, a new song called Beast, which we cannot wait to hear the recorded version of.
