Take a trip to the north with The Northaze’s new tape

If you’re not already familiar with The NorthaZe, the Leeds duo have given you a perfect place to start with this mixtape.

Sabre Series Volume One includes the unique sound that these two rappers have found, combining trippy, tranquil instrumentals with their broad range of flows and lyrical content. Their leftfield beats and ability to, at times, slap down grimey flows on hip-hop, all whilst still keeping some genuine depth to their words – unlike much of the reload and hype-seeking nature of grime – makes them stand out as one of the most original-sounding artists in your Soundcloud sphere.

This collection of tracks includes the previously-released Astral Turf, a futuristic psychedelic hip-hop track that sets the tone for the whole release. It is available to be streamed on Youtube and Soundcloud with a free/name-your-own-price download possible on their Bandcamp. Look out for appearances from fellow Yorkshire talents Toshiro Steel and Jack Jetson on the track 20th Century, respectively bringing a catchy hook and another strong verse to the many on the tape.

Mastered by one of the true greats of British hip-hop in Reklews, Sabre Series is the latest and possibly the strongest release so far from two young MCs who, despite not yet releasing an album, are making noises (good ones) and picking up admirers. An opening slot at Blah Records’ showcase event earlier on this year and a supporting role on Astroid Boys’ UK tour have illustrated the movement The NorthaZe are making from Leeds to the rest of the country.
