A surprisingly sober Jam Baxter has blessed our dry Januarys with ‘Fetch The Poison’, his second album on Blah Records and ninth in total.

Baxter began constructing ‘Fetch The Poison’ pre-pandemic whilst residing in San Cristobal De Las Casas, Mexico, but a state-wide alcohol ban hurried the process up a notch, forcing him to replace tequila sipping with verse scribbling.

The 15-track album fuses spoken word with the more predictable mind-bending imagery that Baxter is heavily revered and respected for. Long-time producer Chemo is behind most of the tracks, but under the new alias Forest DLG, with Jack Danz, Dr. Zygote, Wundrop, Lenkemz, and DJ Sammy B Side all also lending a hand for a track or two- Jack Danz’ three contributions really steal the show for me.

Yet he does not feature on the mic; Nah Eeto goes all Swahili on one track, with Black Josh and Jehst sharing a beat with Brazil emcees NOG, Black Alien, and Xamã on another. That all but does it for guest appearances, but still, Baxter manages to carry the remaining 13 tracks without dropping a bead of sweat- for pure lyrical intellect you really can’t look anywhere else.
