Berlin-based Danse Noire artist Réelle’s new EP titled ‘DN009 Kissing Myself’ takes you to some strange places. The abstract nature of the EP which is at times ambient and at others aggressive hints at what seems to be an incredibly unusual and fascinating mind. The result of Réelle’s avant-garde approach is an emotionally intense series of tracks and a record that feels like it’s continuously re-imagining itself. Whilst aspects of the music feel dark in a unique fashion, Réelle suggests that “Kissing Myself can be seen as a positive statement encouraging unconditional self-love”.
The journey towards self-acceptance is never going to be an easy one and Réelle’s music encapsulates the unanticipated difficulties encountered when embarking upon this voyage. By delving into such a profound and personal journey musically, Réelle has created something truly innovative in a time in which art so often feels tired and lacklustre.
