Storytelling in hip-hop is an art form of it’s own, and Yogocop’s Benaddict is as good at weaving tales into his rhymes as anyone.

The Brighton-based lyricist is far from a new name in the colourful British hip-hop scene, with several releases to his name along with a Soundcloud account heavy with heartfelt hip-hop and jazz-infused instrumentals. However, he’s on the brink of releasing his very first, long-awaited album, Garden of England, building excitement for it with the help of this stunning video.

A cinematic experience from start to end, Benaddict’s track, Bullet Boy, taken off the yet-to-be-released album, provides the soundtrack to a tragic story of a lost, weapon wielding young man. Seemingly set in East London if those trodden football pitches and graffiti-covered canals are those around Hackney Marshes, the video, or more so short film, accompanies the Yogocop rapper’s bars perfectly. It is in fact, chunks of the 2004 feature film, Bullet Boy starring Ashley Walters that makes up the video – the namesake song, created 13 years afterwards provides an ideally, reflective soundtrack of hindsight.

With this the latest track to be released on the forthcoming album and the Yogocop Records boys teaming up with Wordplay Magazine all this week, fans of Benaddict’s endearing, old school sounding hip-hop can look forward to plenty more of the same.
