It is kind of counterproductive to describe Tullamarine’s latest video, you should get lost in it and let your emotions come to the surface. What we can talk about, though, is the importance of storytelling in this day and age.

‘Then Billy Said / What Billy Said Next’ video could be shown at Tate Modern, on TikTok, or as a short on Prime. Tullamarine are soundtrack composers searching for a story, understanding the power of visuals, and using it to their advantage.

Right from the song’s title, they put the story in front of their music, well aware it will speak to everybody on any medium. It makes their project travel light, without the burden of finding space in an overcrowded music scene. And that’s why we loved it.

Now that you have seen it, if you can’t resist, here is the plot. The video, directed by William Glass tells the fictional story of Billy and his conflicted relationships with women. Lily Ashley plays the role of Billy’s late mother, the only human in the video, giving the story a slightly disturbed yet beautiful atmosphere. Billy is represented by a fish balloon following her everywhere until the woman decides to let it go.
