London-based Soundcloud graduate CLBRKS is set to release his first vinyl on hip-hop heavy-weights Blah Records. ‘Microwave Cooking 2000’ has the infamous Morriarchi on the ones and twos, making for a seamlessly comical finish. CLBRKS chatted to us about the project, Morri and microwave cooking in general.

Loving the new drop, how does this differ from your other releases?

CLBRKS: Compared to my other releases, this one is probably the most light-hearted. Other projects of mine take dark twists and turns, whereas I approached this project with tongue in cheek, carefree attitude. I think I was having fun making it, and it’s the only project I’ve ever put together in the summertime.

Working with Morriarchi must be a pleasure, how did this come about, who approached who?

CLBRKS: It’s very different, it’s great working with someone who sees the bigger picture as an album rather than just making tracks one by one as I do. I think Morri followed me on Instagram, I (very quickly) followed back, I probably went to his house the next day and started working.

Can we expect to see more releases on Blah records in the future?

CLBRKS: I hope to, they have afforded me a lot of opportunities I haven’t had before as an artist, and for that, I am grateful.

Blah seems to have more than two sets of digits in pies; we’re lucky enough to get slice after slice of warm goodness. How do Morri’s beats differ to producers you’ve worked with before?

CLBRKS: Morri has a great sense of cohesion, he can piece tracks together in a way that is smooth and appears 100% intentional. He also has a brilliant knack for scoping out a good sample. I trusted him and wanted it to be his project as much as it’s mine. So he’s involved in a lot of the artistic direction as well as the music.

Finally, what’s the best/worst microwave meal you’ve had?

CLBRKS: if I’m 100% honest, I actually don’t own a microwave. But I remember a friend once making scrambled eggs in a microwave, that was wrong.

Sadly, I have also witnessed such atrocities. Much like good scrambled eggs, this album was mixed and heated slowly. It is being served up on all good streaming sites on March 27th and needs consuming immediately, with no extra sauce necessary so you can save your condiments.
