The man that needs no introduction is back after a several year production hiatus with a fresh four-track EP of remixes released on Hyperdub.
This builds upon his 2017 compilation ‘Diggin in the carts’ released alongside Nick Dwyer which showed off a collection of rare and influential Japanese video game music from the ’80s and ’90s. Since the initial release, Kode9 has been touring a live audio-visual set displaying his interpretation of tracks from the original compilation and beyond with visuals supplied by pioneering anime director Koji Morimoto. In his new enterprise, the masterful producer indulges his audience with a hand-picked selection of his favourite remixes from his live sets.
The project is a fitting tribute to an influential and underappreciated genre. Through this, Kode finds even greater scope for creativity. The abrupt and direct style of the early Japanese composers layered over Kode9s atmospheric soundscapes leaves listeners with an innovative and exciting addition to any collection.
