Jack Danz and notorious battle rapper Matter have combined forces to release ‘That Man in Satin’, an album made by some of the greatest movie score composers. Described as ‘A homage to Crime Jazz’, this could quite suitably be the soundtrack for L.A. Noire or backing for one finding their way around Gotham City’s sewers late at night. Danz takes samples and instrumentals from the archives of classical film composers Henry Mancini, Luis Bacalov and Tony Hatch, amongst others, to create something iconic yet new.
How did the production work on this project then?
Jack Danz: I mean technically I produced the beats, but they’re all just sample loops really like I didn’t even add drums or anything, just looped them up.
Jack Danz: So that’s the first beat on ‘That Man in Satin’ and you can see I’ve done nothing to it apart from sped it up a bit… that was kinda the idea to pay homage to these old crime jazz producers and not really fuck with the samples much at all… I even wrote Prod. By Henry Mancini.
