A study on the dynamics of breakups and failed relationships

It is a supreme honour to be granted a chance to say good things about this bands’ latest release, and yet, it is somewhat of a burden. Words don’t do justice to Hotgothic’s masterful dynamic of the break-up song. Yes, a break-up song that doesn’t eschew the kind of lyric that makes Hotgothic so special on the underground music scene “I can’t tell if it’s you that I miss, or if I just miss me with you.”

Nuff said, go watch the video and attend the gig and find yourself bewitched by Hotgothic’s fiendish anarchic revelry.

“Writing ‘I’m still yours’ was both a physically and emotionally harrowing experience for all of us in the band.” Hotgothic’s singer Stacy says.

“The music itself was easy, we boshed that out faster than you can say “my god they have an impeccably good taste” but the lyrics, that’s where the pain started. Jackit, Katy and I locked ourselves in a windowless bedroom in Finsbury Park with a carton of camel blues and a 5-litre box of Grüner Vieltliner and in some kinda twisted therapy session, we told each other every painful detail of every breakup and every failed relationship we ever had. It was brutal and it took much longer than any of us expected. We wrote down the most painful bits that happened outside the bedroom and made it rhyme, that’s songwriting 101 people, take notes. Yes, there were tears, of course, there was anguish and I definitely found out more about my bandmates than I feel comfortable knowing. (Jackit you know this means you and Katy, for Christ’s sake see a doctor). In the end, we emerged from that room hungover, exhausted and drained but we had the words, we went through hell and back to get them…but we got them.”
